The Career Advisory Board members are in touch with Knod teams to keep them updated on the fast evolving needs of employers in their industries. They share Knod's vision about the need for hands on / project based learning paths to bridge the GAP between education and employment.
I currently lead Accessibility Engineering at Google. Prior to joining Google, I was Senior Vice President of Academics at Neumont University. I also co-founded ArsDigita Corporation, an open-source software company that was acquired by Red Hat, and was a Visiting Professor of Computer Science at Universidad Galileo in Guatemala City. I have co-authored two books: Software Engineering for Internet Applications (MIT Press, 2006) and Early Adopter VoiceXML (Wrox Press, 2001). I also served on the Professional Development Committee of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). I have two Engineering degrees from Caltech and U.C. Berkeley and an MBA in Finance from Wharton. I am currently based in San Francisco. Prior to this, I lived in Argentina, Guatemala, the UK, and various US cities. My interests include travel, photography, the number pi, and working on my own software side projects.
I am currently the leader of the Cognitive Systems Institute Group (CSIG) at IBM. I am also the founding Director of the IBM Almaden Service Research group and the founding CTO of IBM's Venture Capital Relations Group. Prior to joining IBM, I was a Distinguished Engineer Scientist and Technologist (DEST) at Apple Computer during the 1990's. To encourage the next generation of innovators to build a better world, I am a founding Board Member of the International Society of Service Innovation Professionals (ISSIP.org). My PhD is from Yale University in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence, and my BS is from MIT in Physics. My research interests include the development of digital cognitive assistants for all occupations in smart service systems. I have over 90 publications and 9 patents, as well as awards including PICMET Fellow, S-D Logic Award, and Gummesson Service Research Award.
I have over 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, and business development with Cisco, Apple Computer and HP. I have funded and launched four technology companies. I am currently the CEO of SourceThought, a big data and analytics company focused on the biggest problem in big data. SourceThought is currently funded by a big data incubator called Frost Data Capital. Prior to SourceThought, I was the World Wide Director of Business Development for Cisco Services where his team was dedicated to driving the adoption of Smart Cloud services globally, a $3B business for Cisco. Prior to Cisco, I was President of Primex Wireless, an IoT company that delivers to the healthcare market a SaaS based platform. I was also the Chief Operations Officer at Resilient Networks and I have held senior business development, sales, and product management positions at HP and Apple. I have a Masters in Architecture from the University of Utah and also have a Bachelor of Science in Business Management/Marketing from Brigham Young University.
An experienced recruitment advertising and marketing professional with over 18 years in the industry, I’ve worked for TMP Worldwide in many capacities, including strategy, client service and digital in Europe, Asia and the US. Currently I assist global clients with strategy and oversight, and act as a global resource for TMP account service teams. Partnering closely with both the clients and account teams, I ensure strategic needs are met while delivering high quality, creative solutions. Throughout my career I’ve had the good fortune of partnering with leading organizations such as Accenture, Boeing, HSBC, IBM, Kaiser Permanente, Mars, McKesson, PepsiCo, and Siemens. I graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts and spend my free time exploring the world.
I have worked in the Human Resources and Organization Development fields since 1987 in a variety of industries. During those years, I have served as an HR Business Partner (HRBP) in companies such as Aetna Life & Casualty, AlliedSignal/Honeywell, and Great Lakes Chemical. I have also served as an internal Organization Development, Talent Management, and Leadership Development consultant in companies such as PepsiCo and Ingersoll-Rand as well as other external consulting organizations. For the past 7 years, I have been an HRBP, Talent Director and Leadership Development director at Rio Tinto, working and living in the US, Canada and the UK. I am especially passionate about helping global business leadership teams achieve better results by leveraging individual and organizational change, business and process improvement, collaboration and accountability, and alignment with strategy. I have an MS degree in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation from Syracuse University and a BA in Philosophy from Brigham Young University.
